Stanley Arthur Thiess OBE was born on 13th October 1916 at Drayton, Queensland, Australia. He was the ninth and youngest son of Henry Thiess and Mary Rutsch.[1]
Together with Cecil, Bert, and Pat, Stan joined their brother, Leslie in a sizeable road-building contract in 1933. In 1939 the firm became Thiess Bros, and was incorporated as a proprietary company in 1946; eventually growing into a group of thirty or more interlocked enterprises.[2]
He married Edna Johnstone on 3rd September 1938 at Queensland.[3]
After the Second World War, Stan relocated to New South Wales , where he established and managed the New South Wales projects for Thiess.
He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours 1968 for 'services to civil engineering'.[4]
He passed away in 1981 at Caringbah, New South Wales.[5]
