Biography

He was with the Treaty Department, Foreign Office between 1884 and 1901. He was Deputy Marshal of Ceremonies in 1902. He was awarded the Commander, Order of the Rising Sun of Japan. He was awarded the Commander, Order of Queen Isabella of Spain. He was awarded the Commander, Order of the Sacred Treasure of Japan. He was awarded the Officier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur. He was awarded the Commander, Order of the Star of Ethiopia. He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1911. He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1919.

He married Laura Mary Fletcher, daughter of John Charles Fletcher, on 16 February 1881.

"London, Jan. 22 --Sir Robert Follett Synge died this morning from injuries he suffered yesterday in a forty foot fall from his bedroom window."^[1]
