Communication Preferences:
I am interested in communicating with
anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests.
Here is my family tree.
My Sutherland line has been in California since the 1850s. My mother's side has been here since the 1600s. Even the non Sutherlands on dad's side have been here since forever. I have not had anyone come in from Ellis Island.
I grew up in San Mateo, California.
I went to the California State University Chico and received a BS in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration in 1982.
In 2008 I received an AS in Geographic Information Systems.
My interest in genealogy started around the time I was in the sixth grade. My grandmother told me there was a book on the Stetson family. I thought that was very cool, and started working on my tree. It did not turn out that we are directly related to the Stetson hat guy. Cousins. I went to about 3 Stetson Kindred Reunions. My Stetson, William Francis Stetson was born in Maine in 1835 (2nd great grandfather). By 1866 he was in Yolo County, California.
My Sutherland ancestor, Alexander, came from Scotland about 1852. I have not been able to trace him back to Scotland. I need to know his wife Ann's maiden name and where they lived in Scotland. Recently a relative gave me the name of Howe/Howie as Ann's maiden name. No luck so far.
Also, through DNA testing, I have found out that we are really Sinclairs, not Sutherlands. When did that happen??

Hi Janice, I've been correcting some categories in the Civil War Project, and noticed you have the wrong category on your profile, you need to change out the Category: United States of America Civil War-- to -- US civil War Project Member. Also, could you let me know if you plan to remain in the Civil War Project. thank you.

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!
This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.
We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:
If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general
We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.
Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!
Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders
Since I am trying to cross the pond looking for my Sutherland connection, I am not actively adding family. I'll try to concentrate on getting more Sutherland/Sinclair persons added. Also do some promotion on social media
Janice: Just rec'd notice of information you provided on Ted Louis YOAKUM. He is my 1st cousin 1x removed. I was wondering how you fit into line as I have never seen your surname in my charts before.

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.
What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?
This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.
Yes, but we are both members of Clan Sutherland :) and I am also related directly to the Britton family, perhaps different ones, but I just found that to be interesting and worth looking into down the road. I am still developing my Wikitree.
As a member of the Scotland Project, we'd love to have you join the Twisted Thistles
in the upcoming Connect-a-thon the weekend of July 17 - July 20. If you'd like to join us and help to develop our ever-expanding Scottish tree, please register on the G2G post here
and be sure to mention you'd like to be on the Twisted Thistles team for Scotland.
The Global Cemeteries Project is currently undergoing our member check-in and wanted to verify that you are still active and interested in being a member of the project. Are you currently assigned to or working with one of our Cemetery Teams? If not, is there a particular Team or area you are interested in participating with? I would be delighted to help you get setup in one or more of our collaborative teams!
We use Google Groups for internal project collaboration, so if you are not yet setup for access feel free to submit a join request and we will get that approved as quick as possible. We also ask that members check their follwed tags to make sure you are following the correct project tag (CEMETERIES) so you don't miss any disucssions in G2G.
Last, but not least, we would like to thank you for all of your contributions to WikiTree and let you konw that any ideas or suggestions for improvement you may have for the Global Cemeteries Project would greatly appreciated!
