Francis Stuart (9th Earl of Moray) was born on 11 January 1737. He was the son of James Stuart (8th Earl of Moray) and Grace Lockhart.

He succeeded to his lands & titles on 5 July 1767.

He partipicated in an ordinance between 1784 and 1796; Representative Peer [Scotland].

He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Morayshire between 1794 and 1810.

He was created 1st Baron Stuart of Castle Stuart [Great Britain] on 4 June 1796.

He died on 28 August 1810 at age 73.

Marriage

On 28 June 1763 he married the Hon. Jean Gray, daughter of John Gray (11th Lord Gray) and Margaret Blair.
