He married Lady Margaret Stewart, daughter of Alexander Stewart, 6th Earl of Galloway and Lady Catherine Cochrane, on 22 April 1759 in the parish of Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland[2][1]
Margaret Stewart died on 12 August 1762 and Charles married secondly Mary Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton and Agatha Halyburton, on 23 April 1774 in London.[1]
Charles died on 28 December 1794 in St Andrew Square, Edinburgh, aged 68.[1]
Research Notes
Volume 1 of The Scots Peerage names the eldest son as "Charles Gordon"[1]. This error is acknowledged in the entry for George Gordon 14th Earl and 9th Marquess of Huntly in Volume 4 of The Scots Peerage[4]Templeton-1883 17:59, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
