Darley Spencer was born in Appalachia, in Kentucky.
Darley Spencer was born on 2 February 1910 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, United States, son of Christopher Columbus Spencer and Louemmia Trent.
In the 1910 census Darley was the son of Columbus Spencer in Campton, Wolfe, Kentucky.[1]
In the 1920 census Darley (age 9) was the son of Christpher C Spencer in Campton, Wolfe, Kentucky.[2]
In the 1930 census Darlie (age 20) was the single son of Columbus Spencer in Stillwater, Wolfe, Kentucky.[3]
Darley (age 21) married Estella Osborn on 5 November 1931 in Wolfe County.[4]
In the 1940 census Darley (age 30) was the married head of household in Magisterial District 3, Campton, Wolfe, Kentucky.[5]
Darley registered for the World War II military draft on 16 October 1940 in Campton, Wolfe, Kentucky.[6]
Darley married Mary Elizabeth Smallwood sometime before the 1950 census.
In the 1950 census Darley (age 40), wife Mary (age 33), and seven children from his prior marriage were in Oneida, Middletown, Butler, Ohio.[7]
Darley died (age 51) on 24 February 1961 in Middletown, Butler, Ohio[8] and was buried in Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum in Middletown.[9]
Research Notes
- Darley and Mary may have only been married a short time. He had been married previously and all the children seen in the 1950 census were from his prior marriage. Additional children not seen with Darley & Mary in 1950, some likely still living, were either residing with their mother or were born after 1950, indicating Darley went back to his first wife. The children are all listed in the obituary of Darley's first wife seen at FindAGrave.[10]
