Montevideo Maru Monthly Mini Connector Challenge (Australia) 2024

The Montevideo Maru was a merchant ship that was commandeered into service as a Japanese military troopship during World War II. It was sunk by the American submarine USS Sturgeon on 1 July 1942, drowning 1,055 prisoners of war (POW) (both military and civilian), mostly Australian who were being transported from Rabaul, the former Australian territory of New Guinea, to Hainan, China.

A colleague has already created a profile for each POW.

The challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to help connect a POW to the one tree.

  • Pick a profile from the June list below.
  • Add your name/ID to reserve that profile while you work connecting it.
  • If you're short on time, consider teaming up with some else to connect a POW
  • Create profiles with a Biography and at least one valid source please (more sources are better)
  • Please keep the integrity of the original profile as it is (someone else worked very hard on it first)
  • You have a month to connect to the main tree if you can.
  • Please ask for help if you need it from the Australia Project or g2g. We are all happy to help.

Thank you for any assistance, you may be able to give to this worthy cause.

Last months challenge was a wonder success. Thank you to all those that participated.
