I've been involved in family history, genealogy and genetic genealogy since 2013. I'm 4th or 5th generation Australia, with the majority of my ancestors coming from Ireland and England in the 1840s and 1850s. Our family was well represented in mining at Moonta South Australia, Ballarat Victoria and Kalgoorlie/Boulder, Western Australia.
My paternal grandmother's family has been traced back to Roger de Polkinghorne in Cornwall in 1300. I'm also descended from the Ó Meadhra clan from Toomvera.
I am an active member of the Australia Project, with a particular interest in:

The first 2024 Help:Connect-a-Thon is coming up next weekend. If you haven't yet joined up, and have a bit of time next weekend, we'd love you to join us on the Southern Cross Stars team. To register, go to Connect-a-Thon registration
Cheers Gillian
You’re a member of Southern Cross Stars for the 2023 WikiTree Source-a-Thon. Thanks for choosing us! Your Bib is 207 if you want to download your Bib and create a sticker. We kick off this evening. The times for starting and finishing for various locations in Australia is at Southern Cross Stars Chat.
There is Source-a-Thon ‘how to’ information and some lists of unsourced profiles to work on at Southern Cross Stars, but you can work on any unsourced profiles that you want. You’ll find resources relevant to Australia under Australia Project Resources. We'd love to see you on the team Discord channel. If you haven't yet joined Discord, see Help:Discord.
I’m always happy to receive a direct message if you have any other questions, or need help with anything. Have a great fun weekend :-) Gillian, your Team Captain!
The profiles are Richard Adolphus Sholl (1846-1919) and Trevarton Charles Sholl (1845-1867)
Many thanks for your help, regards, Margaret, Australia Project.
The 2023 Source-a-Thon is coming up on the weekend commencing 29 September. As usual it’s a 72 hour event. The Southern Cross Stars team will be participating and we’d love to have you on the team again if you’re available. You can register at now at register-now-for-the-2023-source-a-thon. We’re not a super-competitive team, so even if you are only free for a couple of hours or you like to work slowly and go down rabbit holes, it will be fun to have you involved. It all helps to improve the tree. We’ll be on Discord again too, if you like to chat during the event.
Gillian, Captain, Southern Cross Stars
Virginia, thanks for your work to improve our shared tree.
Speaking of Queen Elizabeth:
Virginia O'Meara-503 and Sir Walter Raleigh-1 are third cousins 14 times removed.
and his wife
Virginia O'Meara-503 and Elizabeth Throckmorton-1 are 6th cousins 13 times removed.
Sir Walter Raleigh was a poet, soldier, explorer, and Queen Elizabeth’s boyfriend. One day you’re a handsome dashing poet and pal of monarchy and the next day you’re a statue and city in North Carolina, USA. (Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.)
Happy New Year! Best to you and yours! cousin Richard Jordan, Amherst County, Virginia, USA.
It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!
If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. You will, of course, be very welcome to rejoin the project down the track whenever you want to.
We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. If you want to discuss this, or have any questions or suggestions about the Australia Project we'd love to hear your ideas.
Thanks for taking the time to get back to us!
Kind Regards
Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator
Thank you for your reply, and for your interest in the Australia Project in the past, and your past and continuing contributions to WikiTree, they are much appreciated.
As you are not in a position to be an active team member in the Project at this time, we will remove you from the Project list. You are always more than welcome to rejoin at any time.
Kind Regards
Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator
The Australia Project leadership team are carrying out our annual check-in to see how you are going in the project. We'd really like to give you a huge thank you for all your work on Australian profiles over the past year! We've made great progress in 2020/21 with your assistance.
Please could you reply to this message, to let us know if you would like to stay on in the project and if you are happy with your current role and team involvement.
If you would like to do something additional or different, take a look on the Australia Project page to see what other opportunities there are.
It would also be great to get any feedback or suggestions that you have to improve the project.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Gillian, Co-leader, Australia Project
Yes, I'm happy to remain involved. I have been through a busy period at work and stepped back for a bit. Logging back on now i'm on holidays.
Warm regards
Virginia
Thanks! Great job!
Thank you so much for responding to our check-in. We are delighted that you wish to continue contributing to the Connectors Project. Below is a quick checklist for active members. The project leaders would like you to make sure you have done the following: 1) Checked the Project Page for ways to contribute. 2) Added Connectors to the tags you follow.
Thank you! Michelle~ Volunteer Coordinator
On behalf of the Connectors Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members. Please let us know if you are still active. If you are active, please let us know in which ways you are currently contributing to the project.
All of us at WikiTree would like to thank you for your contributions and hope that you are enjoying exploring your roots.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Michelle ~ Volunteer Coordinator
I noticed that you used the Challenge Tracker to track a change during a recent Saturday Sourcing Sprint. Please consider officially joining us for the Saturday Sourcing Sprints. You can find information, including how to join, on the Sprints Help page.
No pressure, every profile with a source makes our WikiTree better. Your work will continue to be included in the Tracking Sheet's Unregistered total at the bottom of the help page if you do not register.
Your work is appreciated. Thanks for sourcing!
Alex - Sourcerer Sprint Assistant
PS If the link does not work, you can find a working one in the public comment I left on your profile
Did your German family live in Australia?

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.
It looks like Irish Roots would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Your Irish Roots tag will help you get updates about activity for that project.
Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
Natalie ~ Pre-1700 Greeter
Thanks for your message regarding your desire to build and expand your family tree. I have found WikiTree to be an excellent tool for research and collaboration.
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add Profiles to WikiTree. Once you entered your family members it is exciting to see other people finding your family profiles, asking questions, and expanding it.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Great to have you on board, good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree.
Ludwig :)
ME again. I see you have uploaded your DNA for comparison. Did you know we have a project for DNA where a lot of great new things are happening?
If you are interested and would like to check it out, go to the FIND link top right of your profile page, select PROJECTS from the drop down box, and then select the link for the DNA project.
It has information listed that might be of interest to you, and feel free to contact any of the members if you would like additional details.
