Lance,

Is there any reason why you made a Facebook group for the region team? This was not your call to make. We can talk here or on Discord. It is better to do it that way rather than spread everyone out.

Just because you don't SEE movement, doesn't mean there isn't any. You still do not have the authorization to create a Facebook group.

That was announced in g2g, still one of the official channels for WikiTree communication, along with email and google groups.

Yes I made the Facebook group as another way to collaborate. Both discord and google groups are hard to navigate and are not nearly as robust as Facebook groups. I belong to about 50 genealogy Facebook groups and can find topics when I look for them as the are well catagorized. Also comments and postings are part of my news feed. We can share photos links etc.

Natalie had posted that there was no leader for the Italy project and I want to work with other members and get feedback on ideas we might be able to collaborate on and help one another with.

As I knew people we interested in being part of a group I reached out to them.

It is a first step of course. Already I have discovered that the things we are working on and the resources we use vary greatly over the northwest region. It might be beneficial to have smaller working groups as well that can set goals for smaller regions.

I have also found Facebook is a good way to get people interested in wikitree and to use it as a resources

Certainly if no one uses the Facebook forum it will be as well utilized for this region as the various other groups.

Attempting to make it easy for people to participate Iin ways that work.

Facebook groups have proven themselves tone and again to me. I have not found any of the methods of communication in the other wikitree groups to be user friendly or well utilized they simply do not work for me.

For example the items listed above,, the goals for the group give listings of profiles all over Italy. Time must be spent opening and looking at each profile to determine if it is even possible to research it. The way historical records are presented vary greatly over Italy and I certainly do not want to become an expert at all those records. My area of research is a small town where all of my ancestors have come from. The records in that town are similar to surrounding towns and all of Sondrio province. Therefore I do spend time working on towns outside of my villages of interest but only working with records and sources I am familiar with.

I would be happier with a smaller group but it has been decided this is the level that participation starts at.

Perhaps Chris you can share what it is you see the function of the group to be and how to best approach it. I am not sure if you are the group leader or team leader or what as conflicting information has been posted. If indeed you are the team and project leader perhaps you can address the concerns and obstacles in achieving the offrila goals that have been posted. I certainly do not see those goals being attainable given the situation as it is.
