In the 1850 census Calvin (age 21) was in Burke, North Carolina, United States.[1]

In the 1860 census Calvin (age 30) was in Burke, North Carolina, United States.[2]

H.C. Snipes served in the Confederate States Army during the United States Civil War.[3]

In the 1870 census Harry (age 40) was the head of household in Morganton, Burke, North Carolina, United States.[4]

In the 1880 census H (age 50), Farmer, was the married head of household in Morganton, Burke, North Carolina, United States.[5]

Harry died on 2 March 1909 and was buried in 1909 in Morganton, Burke, North Carolina, United States.[6]

Memories

  • He was an excellent carpenter. He helped to build the Home Baptist Church in 1873, a frame church. He worked at Morganton State Hospital at the barn as a nightwatchman. Lois Snipes and her mother Mary Poteat Snipes woould go by and visit him there. He married Cassandra Jemima Mull.

When the Civil War came, he enlisted in the 6th Regiment, Company D at Camp Stokes on 10/26/1864. He was admitted to a hospital at Richmond, Va. on 3/26/1865 with a gunshot wound of the hand; however, place and date of wound was not reported. He was captured in the hospital on 4/3/1865 and confined at Newport News, Va. until released on June 15, 1865 after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
