Biography

Susanna Smyth was born about 1770. She was the daughter of the Reverend Edmund Smyth, the rector of Great Linford in Buckinghamshire, and Dorothea Shan.

Susanna married Henry Locock , a physician and surgeon from Northampton, around 1787 and their children included:

1. Mary Ann Locock (1789-1840)
2. Henry Locock (1790-1844)
3. William Locock (1791-1815)
4. Frances (Locock) Cave (1794-1854)
5. Emma Locock (1797)
6. Sir Charles Locock MD (1799-1875) an obstetric physician and accoucheur to Queen Victoria^[1]
7. Christopher Locock (1801-1801)

She is mentioned in her father's will:^[2]

...to my daughters Frances Lambert and Susanna Locock to whom on their respective marriages I gave their fortunes...

and her brother, the Reverend William Smyth, who was also the rector of Great Linford after his fathers death, is mentioned in her husband's will:^[3]

...my Brother in Law the Reverend William Smythe of Great Linford in the county of Buckingham Clerk...
