Biography

I have started the Shinn surname project, & the Stockton surname project please join me!

Hi. My name is Teresa, and I was the owner / administrator of Myrootsplace for 15 years. Due to retirement and a lack of funding we shut down our website and moved our tree over to Ancestry. We work primarily in Ancestry but we were looking for a home for our tree of 180k plus people. We have years of collected documents, photos & headstones to move. We are moving all info here, slowly but surely!

Personally I'm a Grandma of 12 ! Yes 12. 9 boys, 3 girls. I love them more than anything in this world. They are my primary reason for wanting to leave them a legacy. I spend most of my free time, researching for them and also for adoptees. I am currently in the process of becoming a certified genealogist

I have 25 plus years total as a researcher & genealogist. I am an "old school" by the book researcher and archivist. I started researching before computers & yes I consider myself pretty good at it!

Hi Teresa, I am wondering if you are still involved with WikiTree and the profiles you manage? I am not seeing much response from you and improvements in some of the profiles as requested by some people's comments. I hope all is well.

To Teresa the "other" manager of Henry Woodward (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodward-1445)

I understand you are a member of the profile improvement project, and hope you can find time to assist in an ongoing matter regarding Henry Woodward who you co-manage. Could you weigh in on the ongoing difference of opinion that a number of Babcock researchers have with RM Noble about the second wife of Henry Woodward? A number of us have amassed evidence that Mercy Badcock was a second wife to Henry Woodward (the elder Henry Woodward of Lebanon) and would like to see her  reconnected to him. After a long search into the Henrys of Lebanon and a review of Mercy's Badcock Woodward's Will which Henry signed, there seems to be no other Henry Woodward of Lebanon except this one to be her spouse. See sources at Mercy Badcock : https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Badcock-553

I hope you could you look into this as well and weigh in? Based on assumed (unsourced) death dates, RM Noble disconnected  Mercy and lately suggests she must have married a different man of the same name (same place, same time) . He suggested Henry Woodward Jr. as her spouse, but  I have ruled out Henry Woodward Jr. of Lebanon based on his documented death date, his marriage to another woman at the time of his death, his extreme age difference from Mercy Badcock.

So far the profiles and the comment threads  of Henry Woodward and his first spouse Hannah Burrows  lack reliable source for their  death dates, just dates taken from other forums without primary sourcing and assumed to be valid. Unfortunately those unsourced dates were the  the basis for Mercy having been disconnected.

I suppose we could create a duplicate Henry Woodward to connect her to , but the preponderance of evidence suggests the Henry who you co-manage really is Mercy's second spouse. On wikitree we really are not supposed to create intentional duplicates. I am really not sure what to do except reach out for help. Could you please weigh the evidence of the sources on the profiles and help us in resolving this ongoing debate? Mercy's profile contains her Will, other sources, and many comments relating to a group effort to build the case for reconnecting her to Henry.  Henry Woodward had a Will, but we have not been able to track down a copy of it. Maybe you can find it or maybe you can convince your co-manager there is sufficient weight of evidence that she should be reconnected? I know it's a big ask, but I feel we need some help with this.  Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes can really help!

I am sorry I am so late with this note about YOUR wonderful note concerning Frank Sloat (Sloat-195). All I knew was that Frank passed on and totally disappeared. I am glad to know he still has his genealogy alive on other sources.

Question: I'm not sure how WikiTree currently says that on Frank's entry "No known carriers of Frank's ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA have taken yDNA or mtDNA tests." Frank and I worked with a few other SLOATs - and we all shared DNA results that showed several of us were "same family" SLOATs. But then WikiTree changed settings and seem to have erased all the "living" SLOAT data - so I lost Frank's DNA test results. I guess I should have copied the DNA data that was available from Frank before the big change and his passing. It is now too late to get the info - so I can't link my DNA to Franks any more (sigh).

Are you aware of any other source for detailed DNA test result that can link me to the SLOAT DNA info Frank set up?

PS - as I am aging rapidly and can't always keep up with the times. There may other info available in WikiTree but I haven't found it?

He was born in Amhurst, MA (1699-1799) His parents are Westwood Cook, and Sarah Coleman (from his birth certificate). The marriage certificate also works for him. He also died in Hadley. Hello Teresa,

We wrote to you about the changes in the Profile Improvement Project (PIP) a couple of weeks ago. If you would like to continue with the Project, we can place you in the Biography Team, Level 1 where you can work on improving profiles from your own watchlist or whatever else you find to Level 1 of the Profile Standards.

We would like to hear from you with any ideas or suggestions. If you do not wish to participate in the Project, please let us know. If we don’t hear from you within 7 days we will remove you from the Project, but we will welcome you back at any time.

Sincerely,

Dear Teresa,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing its first annual check-in with our project members. Please review the following and let us know if you are content where we have placed you or would like to be more involved.

We are in the process of transitioning to a team structure. There will be three participant PIP Teams to start -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team who guide new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team. You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team Level 1, working on profiles from your own watchlist and whatever else you find. Biography Teams Levels 2 and 3 will work on designated profiles for notables (Level 3) and everyday people (Level 2). Please let us know if you would like to help with another Team.

You joined the Project before the Voyage started in late 2018. We would like to invite you to consider a "fast track" Voyage, especially if you would like to work at a higher level on the Biography Team. If you’re interested, choose a profile ‘’’from your own watchlist’’’ that you have completed to the best of your ability and compare it to the Voyage Biography Standards. If your profile is at Level 2 or better, include a link to the profile in your response to this check-in for a “fast track” review.

We would also like to invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (When you request to join our GoogleGroup, please be sure to include your Wiki ID). Neither is required; we also use Profile_Improvement in G2G for Project announcements. You will find more information on the GoogleGroup.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project and WikiTree. The Project’s mission is to:

Make profiles beautiful! We clean up messy biography sections and sources, and try to set standards for attractive, useful, and well-written biographies, starting with those we manage.

We know you’re working on profiles *smile* We would like to hear about successes you’ve had toward the Project’s goals. We would also appreciate any feedback you might have to help us improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or privately via private message to either of us.

Sincerely,

Debi Hoag and Robin Shaules Co-Leaders, Profile Improvement Project

Hi Teresa,

I have sent several requests to be added to the Trusted List on the profiles for David McClain (McClain-175) and Charles McClain (McClain-172) who I think may be my 4th and 5th GGFS in my direct paternal line. I have also sent you a few private messages trying to contact you about this, but so far I have not received any responses. Are you still active in WikiTree? Is so, can you please approve these requests? Thank you - if you have any concerns about this, please contact me so we can discuss.

Teresa, you may notice on your activity feed that I've added the Mayflower Project as co-manager on some of your Winslow profiles. Please continue to manage those profiles as you normally would. There are aspects like merging that are much easier for a real member to do than a project.

Teresa,

Some time ago you added Elliott-3031 as father of Eliott-2199. Elliott-3031 is part of a fabricated genealogy - most of the people in it did not exist (his father has the portrait of a completely different person on his profile, the coats of arms are incorrect, etc.). Several persons have tried to contact you about this issue. Where are you in your research? The presence of Elliott-3031 attached as father of your ancestor is leading everybody to believe she did not exist. Thanks for your understanding.

Teresa, thank you for adopting William Marshall-16 after it was orphaned. He's an ancestor of mine, and you may have noticed that I made extensive edits to that profile. (I think I may have been on the Trusted List at one time.)

Considering all the effort that I've invested in it, I'd like to be able to watchlist the profile. As explained at Help:Watchlist, this means I need to be on the Trusted List. I sent a Trusted List request a few weeks ago. Did you see it? If you missed it, you should be able to find it and approve it on the page https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:InvitationPage&review=1

Continued. My name is Cecil F. Marsh III, and as mentioned, the Wills do not mention a Hannah or Jonathan. From my research, rarely was a Jonathan referred to as John.

Your John immigrated to Salem in 1633 aboard the ship Mary and John according to "Immigrant Ancestors, A list of 2,500 Immigrants to America before 1750, by Frederick Adams Virkus. I am seeking any clarity at all about ancestor Samuel being descendant of John & Grace. We also have many of the same related ancestors such as George Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Pierce, Lincoln...etc. Other direct ancestors in my tree include Benedict Arnold, Abraham Clark and John Lake, both "signers" of the Declaration for New Jersey, as well as the Bush Presidents and Clinton. I am a certified SAR as well.

Teresa, I am a direct male descendant of Samuel Marsh who immigrated here in 1641, settled first in New Haven, CT and became one of 80 Elizabethtown Associates who pioneer Elizabeth, Westfield and Rahway, New Jersey after England took NJ and NY from the Dutch.

In any case, a lot of the Samuel Marsh line has his parents as John and Grace Baldwin. Many, including myself a are not convinced and are unable to determine parents of Samuel. The main reasoning being that I have both volumes (in PDF) format on the New Haven, court records that clearly reflect Samuel as having a Brother Jonathan who pioneered Milford, and a sister Hannah who married a Finch. I also read the wills of John Marsh and Grace Baldwin. They had a son Samuel, but no Hannah or Jonathan. Need help if you can.
