Thomas was born in 1850. He lived on the family farm in Tillsonburg. An 1876 map shows T. Rutherford's property in the 11th concession on what is now called Hawkins Road, just east of the Dereham Line.[1] By 1901 he had two employees living with the family. And by 1911 there were four employees on the farm. The 1903 wedding announcement for his daughter Edna describes his place as "Old Roslin, the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rutherford."[2]
Thomas passed away in 1924 with abdominal cancer. He died ten days after the death of his wife. His son Dr. Scott Rutherford was informant at his death.[3] He is buried in New Delmer Cemetery, Delmer, Oxford, Ontario. His two youngest sons, Jack and Scott, were executors of his estate.
