Biography

Rosamond Rushworth was born 17 October 1830 and was christened at St. Mary St. Marylebone, London on 19 November 1830^[1]. She was the sixth daughter of Charles Powlett Rushworth and Mary Elizabeth Home.

Her mother Mary died on 23 May 1841.

In the 1841 England Census, Rosermond Rushworth (aged 10) was recorded living with her widowed father Charles Powlett Rushworth (50) and her siblings Jane Rushworth (24), Edward Rushworth (20), Home Rushworth (20), Catherine Rushworth ( 20), Horatia Ann Rushworth (15), Harriet Rushworth (14) and Frederica Rushworth (4) at Queen Anne Street, St. Marylebone, Middlesex. Also in the household were six household staff.

In the 1851 England Census, Rosamand Rushworth (aged 20) was recorded in the household of her aunt Harriet C Home (53) at No. 2 York Terrace, Sidmouth, Devon. Also in the household were her two sisters Harriet M Rushworth (24) and Frederica Rushworth (14 and a Scholar), as well as two servants.

Her father Charles died on 15 October 1854.

In the 1861 England Census, Rosamond Rushworth (aged 30 and single) was recorded as a Boarder in the household of Ellen Todd (34 and a Proprietor of Houses) at Shop Inn, Near Church, Weybridge, Chertsey, Surrey.

At the age of 30 Rosamond Rushworth married 31 year old Barrister at law Arthur Townley Watson (the son of Thomas Watson, M.D. of Henrietta Street, Cavendish Square, Marylebone) on the 3rd of October 1861 at Surrey, England, by Banns^[2][3].

They went on to have at least four children:

1. Mabel Frederica Watson (b. abt. 1863, m. 11 Aug 1887 Reginald Fitzhugh Bigg-Wither, d. 10 Aug 1948)
2. Charles Rushworth Watson (b. 21 Sep 1865, d. 27 Mar 1922)
3. Amy Catherine Rose Watson (b. 4 Feb 1868, d. 9 Nov 1956 unm)
4. Arthur Gordon Catton Watson (b. 1870, d. 7 Mar 1911 WWI)

Rosamond and her family were living at Thames Street, Weybridge, Chertsey, Surrey, England in 1871.

In the 1881 England Census, Rosamund Watson (aged 50) was recorded as a visitor in the household of Jane Armstrong (41) at London Road, Reigate Foreign, Reigate, Surrey.

She and her husband were recorded at Reigate Lodge, Warren Road, Reigate, Surrey, England (1891) and 39, Lowndes Square, Chelsea, London & Middlesex, England (1901).

Dame Rosamund Watson was resident at Reigate Lodge, Reigate, Surrey when she passed away on 24 June 1904 and was buried on 28 June 1904 at St Mary's, Reigate, Surrey^[4].

We regret to announce the death, last Friday at Reigate Lodge, Reigate, of Lady Watson, wife of Sir Arthur Townley Watson, Bart. She was the daughter of Mr. Charles Powlett Rushworth, and married Sir Arthur Watson in 1861.^[5]

Her Will was proved on 18 January 1905 at London to her husband sir Arthur Townley Watson baronet^[6]. Effects: £636 3s. 10d.
