Biography

Ann Rotton was the daughter of John Rotton and Elizabeth Harpur. She was born 18 July 1830^[1]. When her father's business was not going well (he was declared bankrupt in 1851) she married Edward T Bartlett on 29 December 1849^[2]. Her new husband was killed in a freak accident on 24 September 1851, crashing himself against a tree while riding, dying 10 days later from internal injuries^[3]. Ann had given birth to Mary in 1850, so his sudden death would have left her in need of another husband. She remarried on 22 August 1854 to Stephen Lowell Cram of the USA^[4]. She had five children with him: Blanche (1859), Beatrice (1861), John (1863), Henry (1865) and Gertrude (1873). She died on 31 March 1915 in Hamilton, NSW^[5].
