John (Ross) Ross Second Lord Ross of Halkhead was born in Scotland.

John Ross, 2nd Lord Ross of Halkhead was born before 1478 at Halkhead, Renfewshire, Scotland. He was the son of Robert Ross and Agnes Melville (b. b 1458, d. b 6 Oct 1478).[1]

He was retoured heir of his mother in the barony of Melville on 16 May 1496 indicating he was of age at the time.

He appears in Royal Charters, as John, Lord Ross of Halkhede, knight, from 11 March 1502 (new calendar).

He married Christian Edmonstone (d. c. May 1551), second daughter of Sir Archibald Edmonstone, of Duntreath and Janet Shaw, before 27 September 1490. She survived him and married Mr. George Knollis, although that marriage was annulled about 1515. She died about May 1551. They had issue:

  1. Ninian, 3rd Lord Ross d. Feb 1556. His heir and successor.[1]
  2. Andrew. He had a charter of the lands of Wardlaw, (Linlithgowshire (now West Lothian), from his brother Ninian, and was the ancestor of the Rosses of Wardlaw.[1]
  3. Thomas, styled brother to Ninian, Lord Ross, in a writ, dated 29 March 1557, relating to his sister. No further record of him appears in source.
  4. Helen. She married John Blair of that Ilk.[1]

He was killed at the battle of Flodden 9 September 1513.[1][2]
