Biography

Robert Ross was born in Scotland.

Robert Ross was the son of Sir John Ross, Lord Ross of Halkhead, and his first wife Marjory Mure, daughter of John Mure of Caldwell. ^[1]

Robert predeceased his father. He had married, prior to 1471, Agnes Melville, daughter and heiress of Thomas Melville of that Ilk.^[2][3]

His death may have been earlier as his wife, between 1471-73 appointed Sor John Ross of Halkhead (father to Robert) bailie of the barony of Melville. She, Agnes, died before 1478.

They had one son:

1. John Ross. John was retoured heir to his mother, in the barony of Melville, on 16 May 1496 and must have been of age, suggesting a birth of c. 1470.^[1]
