LATE MR. B. R. RAINSFORD.
Mr. Boles R. Rainsford, who for more than 30 years was actively identified with ambulance work in New South Wales, died early on Sunday morning. Mr. Rainsford was 72 years of age, was born in Dublin, and came to Australia with his parents when still very young. He became a public accountant, and practised his profession in the city for many years. He was one of the foundation members of the former Institute of Public Accountants of Australasia, of which he became president and examiner.
In 1901 Mr Rainsford became interested in first aid work, and undertook the duties of hon. secretary of the North Sydney railway suburbs branches of the St John's Ambulance Association, and continued to organise classes for nine years, during which time he passed the qualifying examinations for the medallion. In 1903 he was elected a member of the executive of the centre, and in the following year was appointed secretary of the centre, holding that office for 14½ years, being obliged, owing to press of professional engagements, to relinquish it in November, 1918. The hon. secretaryship gave Mr Rainsford the opportunity to assist in accumulating in the interests of the centre class fees amounting to £1500, which the executive invested in war bonds.
In 1906 he was appointed district superintendant and secretary of the St John Ambulance Brigade overseas..... [6]
He was buried at Waverley Cemetery, Bronte, Waverley Council, New South Wales.[7]
