Patrick Persse Fitzpatrick Rainsford, the son of John Rainsford of St Michan's Church, Dublin, Ireland and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, was born on 7 Jan 1825 at Dublin, Dublin County, Ireland. [1] [2]
Patrick Persse Fitzpatrick Rainsford married Catherine (Reeves) Rainsford on 6 Oct 1846 in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.[3][4][5]
MARRIAGE On the 6th instant, in St. George’s Church, Persse Rainsford, Esq., solicitor, of Upper Rutland-street, eldest son of the late Rev. John Salisbury Rainsford, to Catherine, youngest daughter of Boles Reeves, Esq., solicitor, of Stillorgan Park.[6] They had 7 children during their marriage.
He emigrated to New South Wales, Australia per ship "British Peer" that arrived at Sydney Harbour 21 Jul 1865.
ARRIVAL
July 21.
British Peer, ship, 1229 tons, Captain Garratt, from London 16th April. Passengers— Mr. and Mrs. Williams and child Mr. and Mrs. Fairlie, and 23 in the second cabin. Willis, Merry, and Co., agents.[7]
He quickly applied for recognition of his legal qualifications and experience in order to practise in New South Wales.
IN THE SUPREME COURT OF NEW SOUTH WALES-Notice is hereby given, that I, PERSSE RAINSFORD, residing at Bourke street, Sydney, hitherto practising as an Attorney and Solicitor of the Superior Courts of Law and Equity in Ireland, intend to apply on the last day of the next term to be admitted an Attorney, Solicitor, and Proctor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
Dated this 16th day of August, A. P. 1865.[8] He was given conditional admission in September 1865 "subject, according to the general practice, to a further application for absolute admission at the end of twelve months".[9]
Patrick Persse Fitzpatrick Rainsford died on 6 Nov 1872 at his home, 525 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia.[10]
DEATH
On the 6th instant suddenly, at his residence, 525, Bourke-street, Surry Hills, PERSSE RAINSFORD, Esq., solicitor, eldest son of the late Rev. John Salisbury Rainsford, of St. Michael's [sic] Church, Dublin, aged 48 years, leaving a large family to deplore their loss.[11] Name of his father's church corrected to St Michan's in a later edition of same newspaper.
He was buried at the Rookwood General Cemetery, Rookwood, Cumberland Council, New South Wales, Australia.[12]
