Uldrich/Uldrick Klein came from Germany. Every child should be assessed separately as to the the primary records available for that child before any merges as Steven says should take place. One child could have had a Dutchified LNAB (Clein), another Klein. They sound exactly the same when pronounced. The WikiTree policy is that what is stated on the baptismal record is the LNAB. If that is not available, the next best thing (marriage records / witness-records / deeds etc.). First the ancestors, then the profiles of the descendants profile for profile, generation for generation. As Steven said, we do not delete records or just merely 'edit' them into a new profile (in order to keep as much of the changes tab intact), but after research and collaborative agreement, eventually merge.
Well, we don't delete duplicates, we only merge. I would prefer patience on those children, because I am still concentrating on prep of 1620s ancestors. Merging descendants too hurriedly invites problems. For one thing, nobody has had time yet to properly identify a best destination profile for each of the children, and to make sure that each child is in the proper category, and has the PPP protection to keep it from getting destroyed in a careless merge. I *think* we are going to continue with the Kleyn name for each child, but the presence of the alternate Clein gives me pause, until we carefully study each child and their ensuing descendant line. So I don't like to just have it be a hasty sweeping decison on this mother's profile. Please instead post on each child that you think is best LNAB candidate for the surviving NNS, and le'ts make sure that that profile has a PPP.
I think it was agreed that the surname should be " Kleyn". By merging Pieters 21 and 27 we now have Petronella U. Kleyn, Petronella Uldricks Clein (2), and Petronella U. Kleyn Brouwer, Petronella U. Clein. They are all the same person. Ditto Ariaantje Uldricks Clein and Ariaantje U. (Kleyn) Van Vranken.
Can I now combine or delete thes duplicates to clean up the profile ? Bill
Pieters-21 and Pieters-27 appear to represent the same person because: they were in an unmerged match & the New Netherland Settlers Approval System (http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:New_Netherland_Settlers_-_Approval_System) now has them marked "Green" (NNS Category) and "Orange" (Merge Pending), indicating that the two are ready to be merged. Thanks!

Pieters-45 and Pieters-21 do not represent the same person because: *** DO NOT MERGE!***
THIS PROFILE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS BELONGING TO A NEW NETHERLAND SETTLER FAMILY. The names of these families are complex, and are discussed within the New Netherland Settlers project before merging. Please DO NOT APPROVE A MERGE with this profile. A discussion of what this persons WikiTree ID should be (the Last Name at Birth field) may be ongoing. When a final WikiTree ID has been decided, all duplicate profiles will be merged into that profile. Please be aware that sometimes more than one profile for the same person will be protected (PPP) while being discussed. This notice will be removed when a decision is reached. Thank you!

But first, we have a duplicate father Pieter that we need to get merged, so I will work on that.
