Biography

Very excited to switch my genealogy to WikiTree! I'm continuing to learn...and there is so much more to learn!

I'm very invested in working diligently on profiles to make them as complete and accurate as possible.

I am busy transferring my gedcom to WikiTree, but I also am actively researching a few individuals of a particular family on my paternal side that have had very interesting lives in the 18th century.

My current to-do list includes some of those profiles that I'm currently still researching.

Hi Enieda,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Butch ~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Hi Butch. Thanks so much for the information you provided. I am currently importing my Gedcom into WikiTree and I do have quite a few ancestors that are pre-1700 that I want to import. I did request already to be added to the Portugal project (nearly all of my tree is Portuguese ancestry), but when I looked at the Pre-1700 Projects list, I don't see a particular project for Portugal within the Europe category. Should I create one?

Thanks in advance for your help with this question.

The Portugal project is fine,I'm not sure why it isn't included in the greeters list of Pre-1700 projects but I'll try to find out.

Thanks Butch. I am now a member of the Portugal project. I also have a few pre-1700 ancestors I would like to import from Spain, but when I tried to join the Spain project it told me it was dormant. Did I access the wrong link for this project? I just tried again and I keep getting the project is dormant. Any word on the Spain project?

Hi Eneida and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
Thanks so much Pam. I do have a question relating to the format of names showing on the profile. My tree follows the Portuguese convention names and that means that "middle"names are really not middle names but a bunch of family names, i.e maiden name of mother, surname of father, even surnames of grandparents are mostly likely added to the name of a person. For instance my full name is Eneida (first name) da Rocha (mother's middle family name) Biscais (mother's maiden name) Paulo (father's last name). As such I would like to see the full name of the person on the profile page, just not their first and last name. I see that if I put the middle surnames in the middle name field, they don't show on the profile title. The only way to circumvent this is to put all names in the first name field. I assume this is the only way?

Hi Eneida,

Pam is not on duty right now, so I will be answering your question for her. I see that you have already changed your name, and according to our WikiTree rules, we do compromise on our naming conventions so that they work for all people.

We understand that different countries and religions follow naming conventions that are important to them, and with WikiTree being a national database, they are also important to us.

Please continue to follow your naming convention as you have started on your name, and I hope you enoy WikiTree as much as I hae.

Hello!

At WikiTree we use our own names on our profiles or we use specific words that work with our privacy system. If you would like to "anonymize" your name, you can use Anonymous or an initial for either your first or last name, but not both, please. If your "alias" is truly a nickname, you can put that in the Preferred Name field.

For more information on the private names guideline, see the special rules for required name fields in the Name Fields FAQ.

For more information on our Privacy Levels, click the Privacy tab on your profile or take a look at our Privacy help page.

Thanks for visiting WikiTree and be sure to ask for help if you need it!
