Notables Project
Baden Pattinson KBE is Notable.
Baden Pattinson KBE was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

Baden Powell Pattinson was born on 22nd December 1899 in Thebarton, South Australia (Australia). He was the son of George Pattinson and mother presently unknown. [1] He was named for the notable British soldier Colonel Robert Baden Powell (later Lieutenant General Sir) who was, at that time, successfully defending the town in the 217-day Siege of Mafeking (the siege was lifted in May 1900) in the Second Boer War, who established Scouting in The Boys' Brigade and would write Aids to Scouting and Scouting for Boys in 1908 which gave rise to the Boy Scouts.

Baden married Florence Doman in 1926 in Norwood, South Australia. [2]

He entered the South Australian Parliament in the House of Assembly after winning the seat of Yorke Peninsula on 5th April 1930 as a member of the Liberal Federation. The Liberal Federation became the Liberal and Country League in June 1932 (and is now known as the South Australian Liberal Party). He did not stand for re-election in March 1938. Baden was re-elected to the House of Assembly in March 1947 for the seat of Glenelg. He was appointed Minister of Education in December 1953, remaining so for over eleven years. [3]

In June 1962 Baden was created Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE). [4]

He was defeated in the March 1965, an election which saw a Labor government formed after 32 years in opposition. [3]

Aged five days short of turning 79 years, Baden passed away on 17th December 1978 in South Ausralia. [5][6] He was survived by Lady Pattinson.
