Mary was born on the 30th March 1845 in North Molton. She was the daughter of Richard Passmore a shoemaker and Sarah Frayne. She appears on the 1851 census for North Molton, living with her parents and siblings. She doesn't appear again until the 1871 census, age 28, living with her parents, with no occupation recorded. Mary married Eli Stediford a most unusual surname at the Methodist Chapel in South Molton. Eli was the son of James Stediford a labourer, they could both write their names, and witnesses to the marriage were John Frayne Westcott her brother-in law and Mary Gill.
On the 1881 census, Mary is recorded, age 36, living with husband Eli a tailor, in Cardiff Wales. Living with them was their niece Grace Darlington. She next appears on the 1891 census, for Cardiff, age 46, with her husband Eli the tailor, and their only son Philip. Mary and her husband were still living together on the 1901 census for Cardiff, but her son is not recorded living with them.
She last appears on the 1911 census for Cardiff age 66, at 5 Llandough Street, with her husband Eli, still a tailor and son Philip. Mary died the following year on the 6th March 1912 at her 1911 address. Cause of death was paralysis agitans 4 years (Parkinsons disease) and influenza 14 days. Her husband Eli reported the death.
