John Henry Parnell was born in 1811 at Avondale[1], the son of William Parnell-Hayes and Frances Howard.
He was an avid amateur cricket player, introducing the English game to Wicklow county.[2][3]
John served as High Sheriff of Wicklow county, Ireland.[4]
John was given property at Avondale by his father William, since oldest son Henry was in England, and did not want it.[5][6][7]
Marriage
This account comes from The Life and Times of Charles Stewart Parnell by Thomas Sherlock, J. S. Mahoney:
John Henry Parnell, when a young man, went about seeing the world with his cousin Lord Powerscourt; and while travelling in America he met, at Washington, the daughter of Admiral Charles Stewart, of the American navy. He made her acquaintance ; they became intimate ; an attachment sprang up between them ; and after a while the aristocratically connected young Irishman took to wife the daughter of the old republican sea-warrior.
The marriage was solemnized in 1834 in New York.[8][9]
