He passed away in 1854[1], at the age of about 15. His brother John Howard Parnell wrote about Hayes:[2]
Hayes, who died from consumption, which developed after a fall from his pony, was of dark complexion. He was a clever boy, being exceptionally fond of mechanics, and model shipbuilding. He was very quiet and studious, slightly built, and named after Colonel Hayes, an intimate friend of our father.
