Biography

Mary was born in 1903 to Henry Parker and Catharine Randall in Palmerston, Wellington, Ontario, Canada.[1]

Mary was the second of nine children born to Henry Bailey and Catharine.

In the 1911 census Maud was the single daughter of Henry Parker in Perth, Ontario, Canada.[13]

Mary's father, Henry Bailey Parker, died at St Joseph's Hospital from a horrible accident on 24 Sep 1913 in London, Ontario, Canada.[14]

Mary's mother, Catharine, was pregnant at the time of her husband's death in Sept 1913 and delivered their ninth child on 2 Apr 1914. Two months later on 7 June 1914, baby Agnes died. [15][16]

A year later, Catharine married William Mancil Broughton on 4 Feb 1915 in London, Ontario, Canada.[17] marriage certificate

Mary married George William Burch on 19 Feb 1919 at age 16 in London, Ontario, Canada.[18]

Mary and George had five children.

  4. William Frederick 1925-1988
  5. John Kerriman Patrick 1939-2013

Mary's middle sons served in WWII and all three returned to London. Donald was injured and returned to London before the end of the war.

Mary and George lived on Wildwood Ave above the Greenway Pollution Plant where George was the foreman. They kept a large garden and mowed a large lawn.

Mary was a seamstress and a baker. She made Christmas stockings for all the family one year (I still have mine). On one of my birthdays she baked a doll cake for me. She taught me how to crochet and how to hang wallpaper. She also taught me how to decorate a cake with roses. At Halloween, she baked and decorated very spicy gingerbread men for all her grandchildren and for her neighbourhood.

Mary passed away in 1987 from cancer and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery and Crematorium in London, Middlesex County, Ontario.[19]
