Crown of St Edward

I come from a large, geneologically-invested family. We have groups online to discuss and keep records up to date for all descendents of Maud Stivers and Henry Oaks. They had a total of 13 children. I am descended from the youngest of those 13, William.

I was born in Barstow, California in 1987. I moved with my immediate family to Leesburg, Virginia in 1996. We then relocated to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Charles Town, West Virginia, and Oak Island, North Carolina between the years of 2000 and 2004. I then moved to Tacoma, Washington, back to North Carolina, and then back to Virginia between 2007 and 2011.

In 2012, I met a wonderful man, and by 2013 we had moved in together. We were married in 2017. That same year my husband was offered a transfer for his job to Tokyo, Japan and we both jumped at the opportunity to experience a whole new world! We've been happily living in Tokyo ever since!

I am child-free by choice, but I do love my fur-babies:

  1. Karma, Pomeranian, 2007-2020
  2. Xena, Persian, 2009-
  3. Emiko, Mini Dachshund, 2019-
  4. Yuuna, Chihuahua/Mini Dachshund Mix, 2020-

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

Ooh nice! Thanks for the heads up, Lisa!
Hey,

Here is a list of all 4 thons next year:

Connect-a-Thon Jan 19-22

Connect-a Thon Apr 12-15

Connect-a Thon Jul 19-22

Source-a-Thon Oct 4-7

That means the first Thon of the year will be a Connect-a-Thon on the weekend of the 19 - 22 Jan 2024. I would love to have you with your fellow Legacy Heirs at that time, if it works out for you. I will remind you about registration when that time comes.

P.S. I now know a quick and easy little tip on how to add profiles. If you use the Sourcer/Searcher app, and want to know the hint, let me know and I will send you the steps.

Hi Lisa! Thanks for the update. I do use the sourcer app, and would love to know any tips or hints you've got! Thanks!
Thank you for being a Legacy Heir!!

Thanks for having a Big Heart and taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. You will want to read this After Adopting Orphans as it explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. You may also want to go through the new member help on How to manage your Watchlist.

Greetings from the 1776 Project . . .

We're doing our semi-annual check-in to ask whether you have made contributions to the project in the last six months?

Please note that it is a requirement for membership in the 1776 Project that you respond to this check-in. Please post your response as a reply to this message on your page, for convenience of record keeping.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Betty! I have not made contributions to the project within the last 6 months.
Thank you for the response, Melissa. We understand that every member's available time changes from year to year. If you would like to rejoin the project, please follow the directions at the project page.

Best Regards,

Betty

Hello,

I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.

If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.

We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Melissa, It looks like you may have some outstanding merges that need attention. You can find them by following the link at the top of this page under >My Wikitree>Watchlist, then hit the button that says Pending Merges

Thanks for helping with Wikitree

As a note, I no longer have access to FamilyTree.org because I am in Japan, and the website is not authorized for my use from a Japanese IP address. Most of my sources come from Ancestry.com, Newspapers.com and Fold3. I realize these are subscription-based, so I've been downloading records to share here so they're available for the profiles I'm working on.
Hi Melissa,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention those profiles need.

We have an FAQ which show how to create citations for the records you are finding at Ancestry:

How to create stable Ancestry Links and how to use them as a citation

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Hello, Melissa,

We are sorry to lose you as a member of the Connectors Project, but we understand that life gets busy and interests shift. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin the project in the future if you wish.

Hi Deb! I'm back at it, and would love to rejoin the connectors project. :) I'm starting a One Name Study on my maiden name, and adopting profiles under that name. I'd like to work on connecting them to the main tree, as well as others that are needed.
Hello,

It has been a couple of weeks since we contacted you about your participation in the Connectors Project and as we haven't heard from you, we are following up to make sure you wish to remain a member. We understand that interests shift as we grow our shared tree and that some members may have moved on to projects more pertinent to the branches they are currently building. If this is the case for you, please let us know. If we do not hear back from you within the week, we will assume you have moved on to other things for the moment and remove you from the project. Please know that you will always be welcome to rejoin should your interests shift back in this direction. Thank you so much for your participation; we genuinely appreciate it. Michelle~ Volunteer Coordinator

All of us at WikiTree would like to thank you for your contributions and hope that you are enjoying exploring your roots.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz, Melissa!

Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordinating with others is essential.

For the Norton ancestors I suggest this: Massachusetts project, part of United States History project. For a badge, sign up with the leader, Ellen Smith on g2g.

Or use the Pre-1700 Projects list, located at the top of your page, 4th topic on right, under <Find> and <Projects>.

For questions, just ask on my page.

Melissa,

Glad to have you on the Massachusetts Project of the US History Project. I see you’re already following both projects. Go ahead and add {US History|sub-project=Massachusetts} (use double { } at each end) above your bio. I don’t know if you’ve found it, but ma-vitalrecords.org is a great source for pre-1850 Massachusetts records, and archive.org has most of the vital record books that were published. Holler if you need any help. Bob

Hi Melissa

You've been a member for about a week so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
