When his parents passed away in 1904 and 1908, he and two of his younger siblings moved into their oldest sister, Eliza's, home with her husband in Arkansas.[1]
Henry married Maud Stivers in September of 1911.[2] They had a total of 13 children.
By 1917, they had relocated to Union Parish, Illinois, where Henry filled out a WWI Draft Registration Card, on which he claimed exemption for his dependent wife and four children at the time.[3] Between the 1917 WWI Draft Registration and the 1942 WWII Draft Registration, his occupation was listed as farmer, self-employed.[4]
