Thomas Newton was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Birth
Thomas Newton was born in 1858, in Durham Lead, Victoria, Australia, not long after the family left England for the goldfields of Victoria, Australia, the third child, third son of Joseph Newton (senior) and Mary Redden. His birth is registered with his mother's name showing as "Riddon". ^[1]

Marriage
Thomas married Bessie Crewe, the sister of his brother's wife (Emily), on the 9th December 1884, in Queensland, just as his father and his brother had married sisters.^[2]
Children
Thomas and his wife, Bessie, had four sons and three daughters in the next 14 years.

Death
Thomas Newton died on the 11th July 1898, in Queensland, Australia, aged 40 years, ^[3] leaving Bessie a widow with a nine-month old, a two-year old, a four-year old, a seven-year old, a nine-year old, an eleven-year old and a thirteen-year old.

Thomas was interred in the Charters Towers Monumental & Lawn Cemetery,^[4] where his son Ernest was later laid to rest beside him.
