George Washington Nance was born in Charles City, Virginia, the son of Zachariah Nance and Jane (Wilkins) Nance. He died in Petersburg, Illinois nine days before his 91st birthday. A two thousand four hundred dollar granite shaft towers above his resting place in the cemetery at Petersburg. [1]
George married Elizabeth Martin, also born in Charles City, Virginia. They were the parents of fourteen children, the first nine born in Green county, Kentucky and the last five in Menard County, Illinois.
