When Robert NANCE was born on February 22, 1788, in Charles City, Virginia, his father, Zachariah, was 27 and his mother, Jane, was 24. He married Ruth Sturgill HASH and they had seven children together. He then married Mary "Polly" BLUNT and they had three children together. He died on November 14, 1852, in Lawrence, Missouri, at the age of 64. per Sonia (Nance) Roberts
Robert Nance was twice married, wives unknown. He was the father of nine children, not much is known. Phillip, the eldest was the first white person to be buried in Knox county, Illinois. He was was buried in Henderson township, January 9, 1829, when fifteen years of age. Fifty years from that date, January 9, 1879, the citizens of the township met and raised money with which to erect a monument to his memory, and build a wire fence around the grave. per Fred Goodell
