Susanna Meyer was born 22 November, 1773 in Pennsylvania, possibly in Upper Saucon, Northampton County (now Lehigh) or in nearby Bucks or Montgomery Counties. Her birthdate has been calculated from her age at death.[1] Her parents were Peter Meyer and his wife Elizabeth.[2]
She married John Yoder[3] likely about 1800 based on their children's birthdates, although certainly before 1813 when she is mentioned in her father's will as "Susannah, wife of John Yoder."[2] She doesn't appear to be included in Peter's 1800 census enumeration,[4] though without names it is hard to determine. John Yoder's 1800 enumeration hasn't been found. Both Susanna and John came from Mennonite farming families.
Susanna received a bequest of £125 and Peter says that he had already given her "several articles of husbandry and other goods" at the time of her marriage. This probably included a cow and heifer and possibly a piece of furniture, based on the bequests in the will to the other daughters.[2]
Susanna and John had at least five surviving children: Elizabeth (who married John Stauffer), John Jr., Joseph, Peter, and Jacob.
She died on 4 May 1815 in Upper Saucon, Lehigh, Pennsylvania and is buried at the Saucon Mennonite Meeting House Cemetery.[1][3] The photograph of her tombstone at FindAGrave is unreadable, but the transcription provided says:
Wife of Hanes
Aged 41 Years 5 Months & 12 D[1]
