Jimmy McManus lived in Winnipeg near what is now known as Osborne Street Village, He ran a BA/Gulf Oil gas station at the corner of King and James Streets. The site has since been redeveloped and is part of the City of Winnipeg Civic Complex-Police Station. He married Millie Rogers (her mother lived with the family). They had no children. Millie's mother used to 'make' ceramic dolls. After Gulf sold the property, Jimmy was employed by Stern Motors and hauled new GM trucks for them from Oshawa to Winnipeg. He was killed when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving, hauling 4 new vehicles, and his truck rolled into the ditch. He went off the road (Hwy 69) near Parry Sound, Ontario as a result of a sheared pin. [1]

He was a Catholic and his destination was his grandparents, John McManus, Box 96 Russell, Maniotba. His nearest relative to his point of origin was his grandfather, Mr. John Dolan, 254 Main, St., Shettleston, Glasgow. He had a healthy complexion, black hair and dark brown eyes.[4]

Death/Burial "Accidentally, on November 13, 1965, at Britt, Ontario, Mr. James Andrew (Jimmy) McManus, aged 46 years, dearly beloved husband of Amelia B. (Milly) McManus of 596 Gertrude Avenue, and son of Mrs. Catherine McManus of Fort William and the late James McManus. Funeral service will be held at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Clark Leatherdale Funeral Home, 232 Kennedy Street with Rev. Dr. G. F. Dyker officiating. Cremation to follow. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Mr. McManus came to Russell, Manitoba as an infant. He received his schooling in Russell. During World War Two he served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. After his discharge he was employed in the Trucking Industry then with McDonald Shoe Store for a period of 10 years. In 1954 he opened the B. A. Service Station at King and James, which he operated till the spring of 1965. At the time of his death, Mr. McManus was employed as the New Truck Service Manager with Stern Trucks. Ltd. He was an active member of Valour Road Branch, Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of Valour Road Branch, Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of the Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. Surviving him besides his wife Amelia, is his mother, Mrs. Catherine McManus of Fort William; two brothers, John of Vancouver and Tom of Valleyfield, P.Q.; three sisters, Mrs. T. Blake of Fort William, Mrs. C. Gorman of Gravenhurst, Ontario, and Mrs. Anne Delvecchio of Miami, Flordia. Should friends desire contributions may be made to the Crippled Children's Society."[8]
