Biography
Born: Betty Lorraine MATTHIAS, on 4 February 1926 in Murray Bridge, South Australia, father Edmund Heinrich MATTHIAS, mother Anna Elisabeth LINDNER. Betty's twin sister Constance Marie MATTHIAS, passed away at the age of three weeks.
Residence: Betty lived with her parents at 20 Alice Terrace, Murray Bridge and was legendary for remembering the birthdays of all her extended family members with a card and usually a gift (often which she had knitted). Following the deaths of her parents, Betty continued to reside for a time at Murray Bridge before moving to a unit at the Glynde Lutheran Homes in 1982.
Died: on 27 June 1992 at the age of 62 years in the Glynde Lutheran Homes. Her funeral took place on 1 July 1992.
Place of burial: with her parents in the Murray Bridge General Cemetery, Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge,South Australia.
Extract from Pfeiffer, Lynette (2001) page 67 "Betty attended school at Murray Bridge. Due to a disability in late childhood, she was bedridden for a year. She continued to live with her parents at Murray Bridge, and at various times, would assist in the homes of her brothers and sisters. She was actively involved in Lutheran Ladies Guild, Red Cross and Elderly Citizens. Her hobbies were knitting and baking. In 1982, Betty moved to a unit at Glynde Lutheran Homes."
