Biography

Birth: Anna Elisabeth (Elisabeth) LINDNER, on 12 January 1895 in Emmaus near Eudunda, South Australia. She was the fifth child of Bill and Sophie LINDNER.

Early life: Elisabeth attended the Lindley and Australia Plains Lutheran Schools. She was confirmed at the Australia Plains Lutheran Church on 1 November 1908 by Rev D.W.Georg. After finishing her schooling, Elisabeth helped on the family farm.

Marriage: on 26 June 1918 in the Schomburgh Lutheran Church, South Australia, to Edmund (Ted) MATTHIAS.

Residence: Elisabeth and Ted set up home in Murray Bridge, South Australia where they remained for the rest of their lives. Their home was a very welcoming place which their children and grandchildren delighted to visit. They happily helped others in need, if necessary taking a person into their home. A young Errol Wayne NOACK (Noack-262) was cared for by Elisabeth and Ted at a time of crisis in his early life. For this, he was ever grateful.

2. Clair Elizabeth MATTHIAS, married Friedrich Wilhelm NOACK;

3. Lance William MATTHIAS, died at the age of 2 weeks;

4. Constance Marie MATTHIAS, (twin, died at the age of 3 weeks;

5. Betty Lorraine MATTHIAS (twin);

6. Kenneth Walter MATTHIAS, married Marlene Joan HENDY;

7. Naomi Margaret MATTHIAS, married Robert MARTIN; married Don ROCHOW.

Death: Elisabeth passed away on 7 October 1977 in Murray Bridge, South Australia.

Place of burial: Murray Bridge General Cemetery, Murray Bridge, South Australia.
