From 1598 to 1606 he is styled "of Essich,"1 but in the latter year he obtained from his father a charter of Benchar in Badenoch, and on 25 May 1610, from Sir John Campbell of Calder, a charter of the towns and lands of Borlum and Cullairds in Dores parish, the grant of Borlum being "cum manerie et fortalicio" and with salmon fishings on the lake and water of Ness. This latter charter, which was confirmed under the Great Seal 2 Aug. 1616, is in favour of William Mackintosh of Benchar and Elizabeth Innes, his spouse, and their heirs, whom failing, the male heirs of William whomsoever bearing the name and arms of Mackintosh.
