Biography

Hawise Luttrell was born about 1393-5 (aged 24 or 26 in 1419). She passed away March 24, 1421/22.^[1][2]

She m. (1) Thomas Belesby, Esq. (d. 20 Sep 1415) of Bilsby, Lincolnshire, son and heir of William de Belesby, Knt. of Bilsby, Lincolnshire; 1s. Thomas and 1da. Elizabeth (m. John Pigot, William Vaux, and John Stanley) and (2) bef. May 1416, Sir Godfrey Hilton. They had a son Sir Godfrey Hilton and a daughter Hawise. When Hawise married Sir Geoffrey Hilton she was the widow of Sir Thomas Belesby and she brought a considerable dowry into this marriage.^[2]

She d. 24 March 1421/2. Her widower Sir Geoffrey Hilton (d. 5 Aug 1499) m. (2) Eleanor Welles, widow of Hugh Poynings of Charlton, Hampshire and da. of John Welles, 5th Lord Welles and Eleanor Mowbray.^[2]

Research Notes

Richardson numbers her ancestors but they held manors (with Hooton Pagnell apparently a feudal barony) but were not summoned to Parliament; Hawsie was the heir general of this family and theoretically the Barony created in 1295. However, I don't think she's really the de jure Lady Luttrell since none of heir heirs attempted to prove a claim.

Through the families of Hilton, Thimbleby and Conquest, Irnham passed to Mary Christina Arundell (1764-1805) who m. James Everard Arundell, 9th Baron Arundell of Wardour. Mary and her sister Eleanor (1766-1835) who m. Charles Clifford, 6th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh would have been the senior heirs to the Barony of Luttrell.
