Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Jim Love is a part of US Black heritage.

James Love was born on 20 October 1883, in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. He was the son of Burrell Love and Annie Watson.

He married Rosa Lee Stevenson on 19 December 1900, in Chickasaw, Mississippi.[1]They were sharecroppers. They were the parents of at least six sons and six daughters.

In 1910 James and Rosa took their young family and escaped during the night. They left the oppressive atmosphere of Mississippi and traveled to Arkansas.[2]

Though they started with nothing, within eight years James had saved $900 to buy forty acres of land ($14,000 in today's money). With that land deed he bought his family a fresh start. James owned this land for the rest of his life.[2]

He lived in Telico Township, St. Francis, Arkansas, United States in 1940.

He died on 20 January 1942, in St. Francis, Arkansas, United States, at the age of 58,[3] and was buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Colt, St. Francis, Arkansas, United States.[4]
