Biography

Judith Lord was born at Kittery, Maine, on 29 Mar 1687, the daughter of Nathan Lord and Martha (Tozier) Lord.[1]

Judith (Lord) (Mead) Hamilton died at Berwick, Maine, on 31 Jan 1775 and was buried there on 2 Feb 1775.[2]

Marriages

(1) Judith Lord married Benjamin Mead, before 29 Jan 1716/17, when "Benjamin Mead of Berwick appeared in Court & Acknowledged himselfe Guilty of Comitting the act of fornication with Judeth Lord now his wife, Its Considered by the Court that they pay a fine of Thirty Shillings apiece to the King & fees of Court 5s apiece."[3]

(2) Judith (Lord) Mead married Gabriel Hamilton (or Hambleton) at Berwick, Maine, on 24 May 1721.[4] In her father's will, made on 6 Jul 1733, Judith was called his daughter Judith Hambleton.[5]

From the Lord family genealogical notes of my great grandfather Isaac Purl Lord (1858-1942):

  • The family of Hambleton was prominent in Church affairs at Berwick ME. Sometimes written "Hamilton" but erroneously. Some "later comers" at Sanford ME about the time of the Revolution wrote their names "Hamilton."
