Go to http://my.rootsmagic.com/KarlK/index.html. That is my family tree. Then select name index. Kelsey McDougall has the complete Beers entry. Angus McDougall has the bit about Gregor McDougall.

Commemorative biographical record of Kent 1904 page 629 Kelsey McDougall, a prosperous general farmer of the Gore of Chatham, County of Kent, residing on lot 11, concession four, owns a fine farm of 55 acres, in which he has lived since 1902. His birth occurred in Wallaceburg, Ontario April 8, 1856, and he is a son of Angus and Elizabeth (Kincade) McDougall, of Wallaceburg and County of Middlesex, respectively. Angus McDougall, who was born April 4, 1820, was a farmer, and he died in Wallaceburg, March 8, 1895, age 74 years. His wife died April 16, 1857, age 36 years -this is part of the entry

Hi Laura

Great to hear from you. Kincades probably came from Donagheady Parish in County Tyrone. We visited the area in 2015 but could not find a definitive connection. They originally came from Scotland. Was the adoption formalized? I assumed that given the times that it was an informal arrangement. Do you have any info on the marriage of Angus and Elizabeth? It is about 60 miles (100km) from Wallaceburg to Adelaide - I always wondered how they met? Some of Elizabeths sisters lived in Port Huron in the 1850's. Also her brother Robert was a sailor on the Great Lakes - maybe they met in Sarnia? Have you found any info about Angus and Elizabeth's son John? The only info on him was in the Beers history of Kent County. Did you see the info about the criminal Gregor Blackhawk McDougall?

Hi Laura,

For future reference, when the person's last name at birth is unknown, the preferred naming convention is to use "Unknown." We do not use alternatives such as LNU.

You should also make sure that you explain in the biography of the profile what the variant names are and why you chose not to use one of them as the last name at birth. If you are having trouble finding the correct spelling, you might ask a question in the G2G forum. There is always someone there who can help you out.
