During the American Civil War, Milton Leavitt served with the 23rd Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment.[2][3] His veterans' cemetery record says he served as a corporal in Company I of the 23rd Maine, that he enlisted on 29 Sep 1862, and that he was discharged on 4 Feb 1863.[4]
Marriage
Milton Leavitt married Samantha Jane Nash.[5] Her father, James S. Nash, had been Milton's company commander during his Civil War service.[3] On 3 Jul 1864, Jane's 24th birthday, Milton Leavitt and Jane Nash, both of Livermore, Maine, published at Livermore their intention to marry.[6]
Children
Milton and Samantha Jane (Nash) Leavitt were the parents of six known children, born at Livermore, Maine, between 1865 and 1881. as listed in the 1928 history of Livermore.[5]
Milton Leavitt died in 1923.[5] A gravestone at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, is inscribed with the dates 1839-1923.[7] His veterans' cemetery record says he died from Brights disease at Livermore on 25 Jan 1923.[4]
