James Kitson was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

James Kitson, 1st Baron Airedale PC, DSc (22 September 1835 – 16 March 1911) was a British politician of the Liberal Party, first a Member of Parliament and then a peer.

He was the son of James Kitson of Elmete Hall (1807-1885) and Ann Newton. He was baptised on 16 October 1835 in Leeds, St Peter, Yorkshire (West Riding), England.[1]

In the 1851 census James (age 15), Scholar, was the unmarried son of James Kitson at 18, Blenheim Terrace, Leeds, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding), England.[2]

In the 1871 census James (age 35) was the head of household at Oatley Road Spring Bank House, Headingley cum Burley, Leeds, Yorkshire & Yorkshire (West Riding), England.[3]

He was created a baronet on 28 Aug 1886 and on 17 July 1907 was raised to the peerage as Baron Airedale, of Gledhow, Yorkshire.

He married (1) Emily Cristina Cliff on 20 Sep 1860,[4] 3 sons, 3 daughters and (2) Mary Laura Smith on 1 June 1881[5] 1 son 1 daughter.

He died 16 March 1911 at the Hotel Maurice, Paris,[6], succeeded by his son Sir Albert Ernest Kitson, 2nd Baron Airedale (1863-1944).
