Biography

Anne Keddy was born in Old Connaught, County Dublin, Ireland. Her Roman Catholic baptism appears on 7th July 1856, in Kingstown parish, County Dublin. Catholic baptisms in Ireland were rarely more than two or three days after birth, giving a likely birth date of July 1856. She was the daughter and only child of Richard Keddy with Anne (Booth) Keddy.

Her mother Anne (Booth) Keddy died when she was an infant. Her father Richard Keddy married again, to Anne Andrews in 1861 when Anne was just age 4. He had two more children with his second wife, before emigrating with them to New York, United States in 1865, to raise a new family there. 8 year old Anne Keddy was left behind in Ireland. She was reared in Old Connaught by her grandparents Thomas Booth and Elizabeth (Waldron) Booth, and her aunt Elizabeth Booth, according to oral family history, apparently being raised as Anne Booth rather than her father's name of Keddy.

Anne Keddy was age 23 when she married Peter Byrne in St.Peter's, Little Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland in April 1880. He was age 20. The 1911 Ireland Census states ten children were born. Nine have been found. Seven survived to adulthood.

1881: Elizabeth Byrne, married twice, Andrew Ward & James Kelly, died 1957.
1882: Bridget Byrne, married Patrick Quinn in 1915, died 1970.
1885: Mary Byrne, died 1885 in infancy.
1886: Anna Byrne, died in infancy, no death found.
1887: Catherine Byrne, never married, died 1920 without issue.
1889: Matthew Byrne, married twice, Mary Connor & Susan Quearney, died 1945.
1891: Margaret Byrne, married John Cunningham in 1934, died 1965 without issue.
1894: Patrick Byrne, never married, served in WWI, died 1917 without issue.
1896: Anne Byrne, married Christopher Copley in 1918, died 1984.
Unknown child, birth unknown, nothing further found.

She appears in the 1901 Ireland Census, age 44, living with her husband, and five children still at home, in Shankill, County Dublin, Ireland. She appears again in the 1911 Ireland Census, age 54, living with her husband, and three children still at home.

Her father Richard Keddy passed away age 75, far away in Amsterdam, Montgomery, New York, United States in 1903, when Anne was age 47. It is not known if she was in contact with him, or with any of her four half-siblings in America.

Anne's husband Peter Byrne passed away aged 67 in Shankill, County Dublin, Ireland in 1927. Anne was age 70.

Anne (Keddy) Byrne herself passed away 11 years later age 82 in Shankill, County Dublin, Ireland in 1938. She had 9 children and 28 grandchildren.

Anne (Keddy) Byrne is buried in St.Peter's Cemetery, Little Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, alongside her husband Peter Byrne, and her daughters Elizabeth (Byrne) Kelly and Catherine Byrne, in grave FA59.
