Biography

George was born in Oct 1770. He was the son of George Jones and Margaret Morgan.

He married Alace Johnson in Grayson County, Virginia^[1] (Bond issued 19 September 1799 for the marriage of George Jones, Jr to "Alace" Johnson. Surety: James Jones. Indexed as Alice & noted "Return: not found" ^[2])

In 1850 he is living with his daughter Charity.^[3]

He passed away on 17 Jul 1860 in Carroll County, Virginia.^[4]

Research Notes

1. The 1850 Census for Carroll County, Virginia^[3] has an 80-year-old George Jones, but it is not especially helpful as a source for his children. Existing profiles attached as descendants as of 14 March 2023 do not include a Charity Jones or a James C Jones. However, his will leaves the bulk of his estate to his daughters Margaret and Charity Jones and his "grands".^[5]
   
2. There is an 1820 census for George Jones in Grayson county, total household of 26 including all persons (Free White, Free Colored, Slave)^[6] or ^[7]
   
3. In 1830 the household was 12^[8] or ^[9]
   
4. In 1840 the household had only 5 individuals.^[10]
