Robert Ingalls was born about 1551, probably in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England. He married Elizabeth about 1581, and they were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Wyberton, Lincolnshire, England in 1585. He was buried on 22 March 1618, probably in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England.[1]
Will: mentions wife Elizabeth, eldest son Edmund, second son Robert, son Francis, servant Anne Cleasbie, cousin Henry, and brother Henry.
In his book, The Ingalls family in England and America Walter Renton Ingalls writes that . . . "The first of our own ancestry of whom we know was Henry Ingalls of Skirbeck, probably the great-grandfather of Edmund [making him a grandfather of Robert], who died in 1555 and probably was born about 1505." In "Some English Material Pertaining to Edmund and Francis Ingalls of Lynn, Mass.," John Brooks Threlfall provides support for assuming Robert is the father of Edmund, and that Henry Ingalls *may be* the grandfather *or* great grandfather of Edmund. . . . he writes that "Robert Ingalls was *probably* a grandson of Henry." . . . In the Pillsbury genealogy by Mary Lovering Holman, she says that . . . "the 'Ingalls Genealogy' assumes that the will of an earlier Henry [Ingalls, of Skirbeck], . . . is that of the father of Robert [Ingalls] and hence the grandfather of the emigrants [Edmund and Francis] but no proof is given that such is true." She goes on to say that "It would seem probable that he [Robert] was a grandson [of Henry].
In her English Research Regarding the Ingalls Family of Lincolnshire, England, and Lynn, Masssachusetts Rosalyn Davenport Gibbs writes that . . . "Robert Ingolls, whose brother was Henry Ingolls. The only clue I found to the parentage of Robert and Henry Ingolls is a bequest to 'my father Ingols' in the will made by Henry Ingolls, 12 February 1613/14." [The Ingalls Inquirer, July, 1985, Vol. 2, No. 2]"
