Stephen Hutchinson was born at Salem, Massachusetts, the son of Richard Hutchinson and Rachel (Bance) Hutchinson. He was born sometime between his parents' marriage at Salem in February 1713/14 and his baptism there on 14 Aug 1715.[1] Richard Hutchinson appears to have baptized all his childen shortly after their births, so Stephen was probably born within a few weeks of his baptism.
Cutter's Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts says that Stephen Hutchinson "removed in 1737 to Penobscot county, Maine, where he lived until the breaking out of the Indian War in 1780, when he moved to Windham [Maine], where he died in 1788" and that Abigail Haskings was the first of three wives.[3] Cutter cites no sources, and his work contains many errors, but in the absence of evidence to the contrary, this is plausible (leaving aside the fact that Penobscot County was not formed until 1816).
