Biography

Elsie was born in 1895, the daughter of William Egerton N. Hunter and Elizabeth Kaye.

In 1900, Elsie was living with her parents, Wm. E. N. and Elizabeth Alice in Detroit, Michigan[1]. Elsie had two younger siblings, Kay E. and Donald W.

In 1910, Elsie was living with her parents, Egerton N. and Elizabeth A., as well as her two younger brothers, E. Kaye and Donald W.[2].

Elsie married Jesse Hubel in 1918[3]. Their marriage record reads:

Jesse H. Hubel, 27, residing in Detroit, Michigan, born in Michigan, chemist, son of Fred A. and Camilla Scholes,
Elsie M. Hunter, 23, residing in Detroit, Michigan, born in Michigan, daughter of W. Egerton N. and Elizabeth Kaye,
On June 19, 1918, at Detroit, Michigan.

Together they had the following children:

  1. Joan Elizabeth, born in 1922, married Naval Officer Eli Roth in 1946[4]
  2. David Hunter, married Shirley Izzard

In 1920, Jesse and Elsie were living in Detroit, Michigan.[5]

In 1931 Jesse and Elsie were living at 913 Hartland, Outrement, Quebec. They had two children, both of whom were noted to have been born in Quebec[6]. Jesse, born in the U.S., reported his father to have been born in Germany and his mother in Quebec; Elsie's parents were both born in Ontario.

Jesse died in 1959 at the Montreal General Hospital[7] and was buried at the Cimetière du Mont-Royal, in Outremont, Montréal, Québec.

Elsie died in 1985[8].

Research Notes

Elsie's mother, Elizabeth, died in 1962[9]. Her husband, William E. N. Hunter, predeceased her. Mother of Mrs. Jesse Hubel; E.K. Hunter, and Donald Hunter.
