Biography

David was born in 1820[1]. He married Frances Griffith in 1847.[2] He passed away in 1888[3].

Member of the Bear Flag Revolution at the beginning of the Mexican War in California.[2][4]

David and some of his siblings emigrated overland from Missouri to the Mexican province of Alta California in 1845 with the Grigsby-Ide party.[6] Shortly after arriving, he and his brother-in law John York built the first two cabins in what later became the town of Calistoga in the Napa Valley.[7] As mentioned above, he participated in the Bear Flag Revolt and then in the war which led to the acquisition of California by the United States, and later became an established leader in the growing Napa Valley Community.[8].
