Biography

Margaret Hover was born on 14 Nov 1903. [1]

On 7 May 1910 at the time of the 1910 US Census, head of household William J. Dyer (age 52, born in Canada) was employed as a Farmer and living on a farm he rented in Boulder, Colorado with his wife Emma E. Dyer (age 43, born in IL); stepson Frank Hover (age 14, born in MO); and stepdaughter Margaret Hover (age 6, born in CO). William and Emma had been married for 2 years. Emma had given birth to 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive at that time. Both of William's parents were born in Switzerland; Emma's father was born in New York and her mother in Missouri. [2]

Margaret and William's wedding was mentioned in a local Vashon Island newspaper in August 1921:

    Wedding Bells Ring At Lisabuela – Hiersch-Hover Nuptials Celebrated In Presence of Family an Friends – At a pretty home ceremony at the residence of A. Hiersch Thursday, August 18th at Lisabeula, Miss Margaret Hover, daughter of Mrs. Emma Dyer, became the bride of William Hiersch, son of Mr. and Mrs. A Hiersch. [4]

At the time of the 1930 US Census, head of household William A. Hiersch (age 31, born in North Dakota) was working as a Truck Driver for a Feed Store, and living in a house he owned that was valued at $2,000 on Sidney Road in Port Orchard, Kitsap, Washington, United States with his wife, Margaret Hiersch (age 26, born in Colorado), his son Alan W. Hiersch (age 7, born in Washington), and their daughter Dorothy M. Hiersch (age 6, born in Washington). William indicates he was 23 years old when first married, that he was born in North Dakota, and that both of his parents were born in Germany. Margaret indicates that she was 17 years old when she first married, that she was born in Colorado, and that her father was born in New York and her mother in Illinois. [5]

At the time of the 1940 US Census, head of household William Hiersch (age 41, born in North Dakota) was working as a Ship-Fitter Helper at a Navy Yard, and living in a home that he owned that was valued at 2500 dollars at 94 Sidney Road in Port Orchard Election Precinct, Kitsap, Wasington, United States with his wife, Margaret Hiersch (age 36, born in Colorado) and their three children: Allen Hiersch (age 17, born in Washington), Dorothy Hiersch (age 16, born in Washington), and Marjorie Hiersch (age 4 born in Washington). Allen was employed as a Janitor for a Club House at the time. [6]

In the 1940s, Margaret Hiersch was employed in the occupation of Secretary to the School Board in Kitsap, Washington. [7]

On 4 Apr 1950 at the time of the 1950 US Census, head of household William A. Hiersch (age 51, born in ND) was employed as a Tool Room Mechanic and living on Goldenrod Road in Kitsap, Washington with his wife, Margaret C. Hiersch (age 46, born in CO) who was employed as acting school board secretary, and daughter Marjorie R. Hiersch (age 14, born in WA). [8]

Bill and Margaret Hiersh were involved as Charter Members of the Quartzsite Improved Association (QIA) of Quartzsite, Arizona between 1965 and 1968, helping organize annual Quartzsite Pow Wow Gem and Mineral Show events featuring such items of interest as: fire agates, jewelry, crystals, rare bottles, antique dolls, jade, onyx, and Indian artifacts. Bill is mentioned as participating in fundraising for QIA,

    "Since much material and work was needed to complete the inside of the new building, fund-raising was of prime importance. A big pancake Supper, well advertis-ed as a 'Benefit to the building', was held on March 30th from 4 to 7 P.M. Ways and Means chairman Ruth Fulton, Barbara Walker, Ethel Roth, Cecilia Figlenski, Dorothy Anderson, Ross Thompson, Vaun Allen, Bill Hiersch, Bill Mailman and George Sharrett were volunteers. After the dinner Jeff Hands finished the evening with colored pictures, including those taken at the recent Pow Wow. There was a good crowd and a good show."[9]

and Margaret Hiersch is recognized for her leadership in the QIA:

    "The Library Committee, headed by Margaret Hiersch, had a bake sale in the Library room, raising money for shelving and other equipment."[10]

Death and Legacy

On 14 Nov 1903, Margaret Hiersch died in Clackamas, Oregon, United States. [11]
