Biography

Otto was most likely born in June or July 1170.^[1] He is the son of Friedrich Barbarossa and Beatrix von Burgund.^[2] Already in 1188 he signed as comes Palatinus Burgundie^[3] indicating that his father had invested him with his mother's inheritance by that time. He married Marguerite de Blois,^[4][5] about 1192^[6] after the death of her first husband Hugues d'Oisy. Otto died in 1200 in Besançon.^[7] The date of 13 Jan follows a notation in Dunod, Histoire du second Royaume de Bourgogne, citing the necrologue of St. Vincent in Besançon.^[8]
