Biography

Otto was most likely born in June or July 1170.[1] He is the son of Friedrich Barbarossa and Beatrix von Burgund.[2] Already in 1188 he signed as comes Palatinus Burgundie[3] indicating that his father had invested him with his mother's inheritance by that time. He married Marguerite de Blois,[4][5] about 1192[6] after the death of her first husband Hugues d'Oisy. Otto died in 1200 in Besançon.[7] The date of 13 Jan follows a notation in Dunod, Histoire du second Royaume de Bourgogne, citing the necrologue of St. Vincent in Besançon.[8]
